Remy Hair or Non-Remy Hair, Which One to Choose?

Remy hair, non-Remy hair, virgin hair. Here is the difference. If you have decided to buy natural extensionsnatural weaving hair, or lace wigs, you may have come across the inscriptions REMY Hair, virgin hair, Non-Remy hair on the product sheets. If you don’t know what that means, we’ll make you a hair expert by the end of reading this article! ✌

✔ REMY HAIR

The term “Remy” is a quality label. Remy hair means that the hair used has kept all its cuticles intact and healthy. It is important that all the cuticles are aligned in the same direction, as this guarantees that the hair remains super soft, shiny, silky, and completely tangle-free throughout its life.

Remy hair must meet the following criteria:

  • intact, undamaged cuticle
  • all hair must belong to the same person
  • all hair must be cut and assembled in the same root-to-tip direction

If the root-to-tip direction is respected during manufacturing, it greatly facilitates brushing of the extensions or your wig after installation. This eliminates tangling problems and the “straw-like” effect that is commonly encountered in non-Remy hair of lower quality.

We speak of “Remy” quality when the hair has been directly taken from the donor’s head. They must also have been cut in a ponytail to ensure that none of the strands fell to the ground.

Remy hair is more expensive but lasts long enough and the weaves can be reused several times. Finally, the advantage is that you can color and curl them without any problem.

If you want high-quality Remy Hair weaves, here is our collection of Brazilian weaves. Each with her preferred texture!

  • Remy Hair extensions, which grade to choose?

There are also grades when it comes to so-called Remy Hair extensions.

The classification, which originally went from the letter D for the worst products to the letter A for the best-preserved hair, has recently been enriched with new higher grades 7A, 8A, 9A, going up to 9A+ and even 10A on some sites (which doesn’t exist and means nothing). Suffice it to say that there is no reliability in this grade, supposed to allow selection on rigorous criteria years ago. My advice: if you see less than 8A, the quality is probably not very good!

REMY HAIR

✔ NON-REMY HAIR

The advantage of non-Remy hair is that it is cheaper compared to the previous type. They are still real human hair, but unlike Remy hair, the hair is collected or randomly sorted from different sources such as several hair suppliers, hair brushes, and even salon floors. The direction of the cuticles is therefore mixed, making the hair tangled and tangled quite easily.

They are then chemically processed to make them all the same size. This results in a loss of shine that suppliers try to hide under a silicone coating.

Non-Remy hair is cheaper but of lower quality!

However, they are the most common in the market because most shops sell non-Remy hair as Remy hair. How come? Most non-Remy hair undergoes chemical treatment to make them smooth and beautiful. They are then sold by shops (especially in Chateau d’eau) as Remy because it is very difficult to tell the difference if you are not an expert.

At first glance, non-Remy hair will appear silky and shiny. After a few shampoos, the silicone layer will begin to wash off. The hair will then become duller, more brittle, and tangle very easily.

This type of hair will allow you to keep your weaves for less than 6 months and is suitable for smaller budgets!

✔ VIRGIN HAIR

Virgin natural hair means that the extensions or lace wigs are 100% real human hair.

It is important to check because sometimes the hair can be mixed with animal fibers and even synthetic fibers…

Unlike most wigs, extensions, or weaves, virgin hair has not been dipped in acid baths to siliconize it before use. We are then talking about 100% natural and virgin hair.

Virgin hair has not undergone any chemical treatment, it has not been permed, colored, tinted, bleached, or blow-dried. They are of the highest quality (but also the most expensive) and last longer than any other type of hair extension.

Virgin hair is available in the following shades: 1, 1B (natural black), and possibly 2.

For example, it is extremely rare to find virgin hair in a natural color 4 (medium brown) and even less blond hair. Why? Simply because the donor’s hair is often Indian, Peruvian, Brazilian, Asian, etc.

Our wigs and weaves are made of 100% virgin natural hair. Discover our online store.

CONCLUSION

You are now an expert and you can easilydifferentiate between Remy hair, non-Remy hair, and virgin hair. Remy hair is of the highest quality, with all cuticles aligned in the same direction, making it soft, shiny, and tangle-free. Non-Remy hair is cheaper but of lower quality, with cuticles not aligned in the same direction, making it more prone to tangling, and usually chemically treated to make it smoother. Virgin hair is 100% natural human hair that has not been chemically treated, making it the highest quality and most expensive. When purchasing hair extensions or wigs, it is important to check the quality and type of hair to ensure you get the best value for your money.
